Timber!

Well, last weekend I took down 3 pine trees in my back yard with the help of my friend Tom. I got them all cut up and ready to put in the chipper but those are expensive to rent so I figure I may as well do all the trees I intend to drop before renting it. That means a few very tall trees that will have to be taken down with much more care than the first three. It looks like this weekend will be bad weather for dropping trees so it may have to wait a couple weeks.

The back yard looks much better with the 3 trees down. It looks much bigger and we’ll have plenty of space to do our garden this year (which is primarily why we dropped the trees). We hope to eventually have a garden that runs along the South fence (about 80 feet or so) but we’re starting small this year (8 feet by 4 feet). We’re going to use the mulch from the chipper to start creating a walkway to the back fence. We’ll see how far we get with the mulch from all those trees. We’ll still be keeping 2 trees near the house up though. Hopefully this year we’ll get some proper grass starting to come in where we’ve just had pine needles and mud or clover (or moss).
